About This Spot

Stepping into Silvia's Thompsonville Cafe feels like crossing the threshold into a cherished family kitchen where the warm scents of slow-simmered stews and freshly baked bread greet you without hurry. Nestled quietly on Pleasant Street in Enfield, this inviting spot carries a gentle, unpretentious pace—one that encourages lingering conversations over hearty plates and familiar flavors that feel like a comforting embrace.

Here, the atmosphere is a tapestry woven from old-world European roots and heartfelt hospitality. Long before the first course arrives, the table welcomes you with a selection of rustic breads, still warm from the oven, quietly setting the tone for what’s to come. The rhythms of the room are steady and relaxed, guided by attentive service that feels genuine rather than rehearsed, with Silvia herself often weaving between tables, sharing stories behind the dishes and making each guest feel like a welcomed member of the family.

The menu is a journey through Eastern and Central Europe, where traditional dishes are served with a lovingly modern touch. Whether it's a generous portion of schnitzel paired with creamy garlic mashed potatoes, a bowl of Ukrainian cabbage soup brimming with soulful warmth, or a tempting sweet finish of chocolate ricotta pudding, each plate carries the kind of thoughtful preparation that invites both discovery and comfort. Seasonal salads and carefully curated wine selections add subtle ribbons of freshness and finesse to the experience, while indulgent ice creams and house-made desserts offer quiet moments of sweetness to close the meal.

This is a place that feels rooted in community and celebration—where meals are made to be shared and savored at a gentle pace, and where the charm lies in those simple human moments: the laughter sparked over a shared sundae, the tender care in every bite, and the unspoken understanding that here, food is a bridge to stories and connection. Silvia’s is not just a restaurant; it’s a small gathering spot that quietly reminds you of the joy to be found in honest, homemade food.

Our first time trying Silvia's and we agreed that we would come back again. The fresh bread served as an appetizer was delicious, it was hard to stop eating it. Our entrees were *huge* (definitely enough for two people). The schnitzel with gravy was excellent and the garlic mashed potatoes were everyone's favorite. The server was quite attentive and Silvia herself came out to talk with us. A very pleasant experience!

We had a great experience and the food was delicious. The bread was amazing. It's a good thing I don't live closer or I would want to buy it every day. Silvia is so talented and everyone does a great job! It's a good idea to call and make reservations. We plan to go again.

We were so lucky to happen upon this gem of a restaurant! On our way further upstate, we saw this sweet little restaurant was open and served salads, so we took a chance. We're so glad we did! The salad was so fresh and nutritious, and the balsamic dressing was on point. A nice variety of fresh homemade bread was served warm. Silvia herself presented us with an unbelievable Ukrainian cabbage soup. I’d include a photo, but it was gone before I could take one. The Polish Falcon Melt was the best kielbasa I’ve ever had (very light and sweet)…also on fresh homemade bread. The pirogues (we had cabbage and cheese) were perfectly seasoned and so yummy. We tried the homemade lemonade and it was so sweet and delicious. Everything is fresh and it’s amazingly light for such filling food. The portions are generous, so we got to enjoy the leftovers even more later in the day. Highly recommend this sweet little place, like eating in the kitchen of your favorite aunt. The prices are fair and there appears to be space for special occasions, so check that out as well. Silvia was an attentive hostess and really made us feel at home. Totally worth a special trip—we’ll be back for sure. Check it out!!

Sylvia’s homemade cooking is fabulous. The bread on the table prior to sitting down is fresh and delicious. Meals are prepared to order and are spectacular. Dessert is made on the premises. You have to try the brownies with ricotta served right our if the oven.

Visiting Sylvia's is like having dinner at your favorite aunt's house. We had the German Vienna Schnitzel and the Romanian dish from the European menu. The portion size exceeded my expectations and the price was well within my family budget. Sylvia and her staff treated us like honored guests. As I sit here writing this I'm still staring at my leftovers trying not to devour it all. I'm stuffed and happy.

The owner Silvia and her staff are warm and inviting, along with the atmosphere, and the food was how real food should taste, made from scratch and delicious. The goulash special was absolutely delicious as was the stuffed cabbage and kielbasa appetizer, and salad. Old world hospitality is what you'll get at Silvia's, and take an order of pierogies home for a midnight snack!

Silvia is like family. Love her and love her food. Don't go in thinking you are going to get a fast food atmosphere. It is much more a European experience and you are not getting out quickly. The food is fresh and amazing. Pictures are from a celebration and though she didn't know that there was a birthday until we came in she presented him with a gorgeous and delicious tirimisu cake! I have also been to a wedding where Silvia catered and the wedding cake never showed up but Silvia brought out a gorgeous and yummy cake big enough for the whole crowd and saved the day. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO SILVIA!

Dining at Sylvia’s is like having dinner in your grandmother’s dining room. We were first agreed with large platters of homemade breads and strudel, which were absolutely delicious and could’ve been a meal in themselves. Although I am not a wine drinker, my friends who had the Romanian wine said it was absolutely delicious as well as the Romanian beer. There is a huge variety of food, including Italian, Romanian, German, etc. the servings are huge and delicious! Our group gets together once a month to go out to eat at different restaurants, and we unanimously decided that we would go back to Sylvia’s next month! It was
